I F’ed Up: The Archive

Or what is this website?: A Note From the Editor

In 2014 the Black Unicorn Press published a print edition of an autobiographical anthology of the writings of Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett, called I F’d Up. It was an unusual format for a book, being compiled in a three-ring binder, with a complicated page numbering system that allowed for sections to be moved around, and for the reader to be able to add additional content of their own, without disrupting the book’s organizational structure.

100 copies of the book were originally printed, and we sold out of them in less than a year. I had big visions for the I F’d up project, and about my abilities to continuing to publish content for that collection, but not the infrastructure or connections to practically make that happen…Until Now!

Welcome to the Digital edition of I F’ed Up!

For those of you new to this project, let me take a moment to introduce it, myself, and the pretentious mysteriousness that is Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett.

My name is Free, and I first set out on the path of assembling this project back in the year 2007. I was nineteen and a student at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. I accidentally bought a little red chapbook from a douche bag with a bowtie tattoo. He reeked of BO, trash and liquor, despite having massive straight edge tattoos. I thought some crusty sellout bum had wandered into my roommate’s house party, and so I put a few bucks in his cup, hoping he’d run off to buy himself more booze. Instead, he handed me a copy of a short story titled “Who is Tits McGee?” And for the last 15 years I have been trying to track down and make sense of the writings of Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett.

So who is Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett? This has become an easier and more complicated question to answer over the years. When I began this project, I believe there was only one author writing under the pseudonym, however, they only ever published their own writing in the format of DIY zines and comics that would be produced and reproduced illegally at Kinkos copy centers. In an era before Kickstarted and Patreon, Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett would travel around the country and trade these zines for food, places to stay and the opportunity to participate in various levels of treasonous mischief. Now, there is evidence of multiple author’s writing under this name and publishing under the Black Unicorn Press Logo, so it is a little more difficult to determine which Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett is which, but that doesn’t seem to matter to any of them.

I had managed to acquire a sizable collection of these zines and comics through the early 2010s, however the secret storage bunker in which I was keeping them in Lansing MI flooded in 2018, and all of the old print material was destroyed. I was heart broken, but I was also in grad school, so I had no time to mourn my loss or plan next steps until global events caused everyone’s lives to slow down. This is my effort to prevent the writings of Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett or the Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garretts from being lost to time. Whenever I track down another potential writing from or relates to a figure known as Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett, I will do my best to investigate its veracity, and then publish it to this archive.

I wish I had the resources to format each of these writings to be printable and publishable to the original I F’d Up print anthology, but that is an ability currently outside of my means, and I don’t want to over stretch myself and fail to keep this archive as up-to-date as possible.

I am currently a member of the Black Unicorn Press digital editorial collective, so if you have any evidence or examples of the writing of a Benjamin C. Roy Cory Garrett that is not recorded in this archive, please pass it along via email:
